As a bridge between the public and private sectors, we play an important role in bringing together diverse groups to both leverage opportunities and help address the challenges faced by Canadian businesses, both at home and abroad.

Our stakeholders

Through extensive engagement with our stakeholder groups, including financial partners, customers, industry and trade associations, civil society organizations and employees, we learn from, and welcome, the different perspectives they bring.

Staying connected

We stay connected to our stakeholders through regular consultations, surveys and meetings, as well as direct outreach and feedback channels.

Annual public meeting

This meeting is an opportunity for all stakeholders to learn more about EDC and ask questions about our policies, business, priorities and plans.

Engagement with industry associations

We regularly stay connected with a range of national business and industry associations that have shared interests in advancing Canadian trade and investment.

Through our industry engagements we seek to:

  • identify common priorities
  • highlight market trends
  • discuss the opportunities and challenges of Canadian exporters
  • share ideas to boost Canada’s economy through trade

Engagement with civil society organizations

We also engage with a variety of civil society organizations focused on advancing environmental, social and governance issues to hear—and better understand—their perspectives related to international trade, including with respect to ESG policies and practices.

Materiality assessment

Our materiality assessments help us identify, understand and manage the ESG risks and opportunities that matter most to our business and stakeholders.

ESRM Policy Framework review

At least once every three years, we carry out a review of our Environmental Social Risk Management Framework policies. This involves extensive stakeholder consultation to help us identify ways to better align our policies with best practices, stakeholder needs and emerging risks.

Engaging transparently

Transparent engagement is key to building trust and enabling meaningful dialogue. We take a proactive approach that balances the confidentiality required by our customers with the information sought by interested Canadians. We work to provide clarity for all audiences, including our employees, customers, members of civil society and the general public.
