Klaus Houben joined Export Development Canada (EDC) in September 2010 and was appointed EDC’s Business Development Director – Europe, Head of EDC Representation in September 2020, based in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he leads EDC’s business development activities in the region. His primary responsibilities include business development and relationship management with private sector companies and public sector officials located in his region as well as supporting key clients and Canadian exporters and investors active in the market. When joining EDC in 2010 he started as EDC’s Senior Regional Manager – Europe. He headed the representation in Dusseldorf, Germany. From June 2017 till August 2020, he was EDC’s Chief Representative - Southeast Asia, based in Singapore.

Mr. Houben has more than 40 years’ experience in international business development and in financial services serving corporate customers from medium sized enterprises to multinationals.  Prior to joining EDC’s Global Business Development Group, Mr. Houben worked as a self-employed Consultant specialized in corporate finance developing financing strategies for corporate customers and supporting them in the arrangements of loans.  Before that Mr. Houben was a Member of the Board of Directors of PB Firmenkunden AG, the corporate banking unit of Deutsche Postbank AG, the German Postbank.  His responsibilities included the acquisition, support and management of corporate accounts as well as the development of innovative concepts and international business.

Klaus Houben holds a Banking degree from Bankakadmie, Germany (Frankfurt School of Finance).
