We recognize that our operations have an impact on the environment. Understanding and reducing our environmental impact are key priorities for us, especially in the areas of building energy consumption and business travel. 

Our efforts are informed by EDC’s Climate Change Policy, which outlines our commitment to report on our operational footprint and EDC’s net zero by 2050 commitment which includes achieving net zero emissions from our head office and business travel activities. Our approach ranges from major operational changes such as moving EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa to a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-approved building to developing employee awareness campaigns on various ESG topics.

We're committed to achieving net zero in our operational emissions by 2050. Although the majority of our GHG emissions are associated with our financing activities, we believe it is important to lead by example as we work to enable our customers to progress on their own paths to net zero.

Our plan to achieve net zero emissions when it comes to our Scope 1 and 2 emissions and Scope 3 business travel emissions includes:

• Maintaining carbon neutrality
• Achieving a 32% reduction against a 2019 baseline by 2030
• Achieving net zero emissions by 2050
• Exploring opportunities to engage in GHG emission reduction projects
