Dear Canadian exporters,
As you continue to grow and expand your business into new markets, the importance of good business ethics and robust anti-corruption practices can’t be overstated. In today’s global environment, ethical conduct is not only a legal requirement—it’s a cornerstone of sustainable success built on your reputation, both locally and abroad.
Conducting business with integrity and following the rules isn’t just the law—it’s good for business. By acting ethically, Canadian companies foster trust, transparency and long-term growth, helping Canadian companies stand out in competitive markets.
EDC’s commitment and support
Export Development Canada (EDC) is dedicated to supporting Canadian exporters in their efforts to combat bribery and corruption through our Anti-Corruption program, which was developed in line with international standards. Through our Anti-Corruption Resource Centre, we aim to provide practical support for exporters, including guidance, resources and tools, to help you identify and mitigate corruption risks.
As Canada’s export credit agency, we actively participate in global forums, collaborate with other export credit agencies and continuously update our resources to reflect expected practices and evolving risks. EDC is committed to ensuring that our support aligns with Canada’s international obligations and your needs as exporters.
EDC’s ongoing efforts
Behind the scenes, EDC works diligently to identify and mitigate financial crime risks. Our teams conduct due diligence, monitor key risk indicators and complete ongoing screening to ensure that our support is responsible and effective. We also seek anti-corruption declarations from customers seeking EDC support to help ensure that we adhere to the same ethical standards that we expect from you. We’re here to help you navigate complex regulatory environments and protect your business as you grow internationally.
Your role and our partnership
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with Canada’s anti-corruption laws, including Canada’s remediation agreement framework, and develop effective internal controls and ethics and compliance programs within your organization. You can also leverage EDC’s resources to strengthen your risk management processes. By working together, we can uphold the highest standards of integrity and ensure that Canadian businesses continue to thrive on the world stage.
If you have questions or need support, please reach out to your EDC relationship manager, or visit our Anti-Corruption Resource Centre for more information.
Sincerely,
Bruce Schouten
